Top of the pops has a bright and colour full colour scheme with the main colour being blue, orange and white, filled with colour whereas Hammer is dark with he main colours being black white and gold with only two images on the cover the main one of two people making direct eye contact with no facial expression and a full body shot however top of the pops has a mid-level shot with one person in the main photo who is smiling making the audience feel comfortable this is surrounded by lots of photos of what is included in this magazine these pictures are bright close ups of people smiling with bright backgrounds 
Top of the pops wishes to attract a target audience of 11-15 of boys and girls but mostly girls %85 this is done through the people featured in the magazine who are people the audience like or connect with giving them the incentive to pick it up it also constructs a world the audience connect with and live in whereas hammer has a target audience of 16-40 they attract their audience with the dark colours and the names of bands they would like in that genre and conforming with the death metal genre 

Top of the pops are very counter stereotype with people from both genders on the front a equal amount of men and women of all races whereas hammer has a stereotype for the main image of two white men mid 30-40s wearing all black and in a dark setting and throughout the magazine there is little to no diversity in race and gender 

In top of the pops the social group that is represented is young people without any older people similarly hammer only represents white male artists without any people of colour or different sex

The messages conveyed in top of the pops are about young people being free and enjoying themselves whereas hammer is conveying anti establishment and death

Top of the pops reflects a celebrity culture equally ruled by men and women and hammer reflects a close culture of heavy metal and the ruled by no one.

Reflected and perfected 

Top of the pops has a bright and colourful colour scheme with the main colour being blue, orange and white, filled with colour. This colour scheme is used because the genre is Pop so the colours connote a happy mainstreme audiance who would read the magazine with bright happy colours as they are seeking gratification from the magazine. 

Whereas 'Hammer' is dark with the main colours being black white and gold. This is because the genre of this magazine is Rock. The colour black connotes darkness and a death culture which is why the reader will read the magazine due to the colours that they associate with.


There are only two images on the cover of 'Hammer'. The main one of two people making direct eye contact with no facial expression and a full body shot. The effect of eye contact  for the reader is they feel a direct link and conection to the artist. The effect of showing a full body shot of the artist is showing the clothes of the artist inspiring the reader to purchase some of there own.

 However 'Top of the Pops' has a mid-level shot with one person in the main photo who is smiling making the audience feel comfortable this is surrounded by lots of photos of what is included in this magazine these pictures are bright close ups of people smiling with bright backgrounds. This is because the audiance will be younger with a constant need to feel reassured and comfortable the expressions on the artists face will help do that.They are smiling because pop is all about being happy and innocent to the rest of the world.

    1. I re did it the essay as you asked me to and I just went to make sure it was all complete for Tuesday and it had all gone all of the work I did and the bit we did in class together
