5 mark question

Explain one way in which music videos use media language to differ from each other refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music videos you have studied in your answer Music videos use media language to differ from each other this is seen in the little mix music video black magic with the costumes that they wear such as the baggy non reveling clothes and later on they wear fashionable revealing clothes to gain the male attention where as in somebody to you by the vamps they are wearing shorts and a tee shirt to show the laid back sense this gives us a major contrast between the two media texts as they are aimed at different people resulting in the different mise-en scene these are what set these two music videos apart

Explain how the Little Mix ‘Black Magic’ Video uses Media Language (15)

Explain how the Little Mix ‘Black Magic’ Video uses Media Language (15) The little mix music video Black Magic uses media language a lot. One an example of this is when they all receive their magic powers there are lots of individual close ups of the different little mix members. This is to show how the band have changed since their transformation how they have changed from "nerdy" wearing stereotypically nerdy clothes to becoming  popular and desirable by other men. An example of this, is when they say "hey" and start getting the popular kids attention. From then on they are represented as the popular kids this is done through the costumes changing them to look more "cool". Their costumes when they are nerdy are less revealing and baggy, this diverts the attention from the more stereotypical popular characters. Their costumes after their transformation are revealing and very fashionable. This mise-en-scene is used to show how Little Mix have become more...

pop conventions

Textual analysis of pop music videos Technical conventions Band shots, shadows, mise-en-scene reflects atmosphere such as the facial expressions if they are smiling it creates a happy atmosphere, equal division of shots upon band members Bright lighting- puts them in the spotlight to show them as the main character being dominant and superior High low angles to show the superiority of the audience and inferior of the person in shot , special effect lighting Close-ups- this is to show the artist as the most important person in the scene Animation- this is to show the affect of the magic making it more realistic this is to keep that senses of realism Performance clips  fast pace editing  mainly straight cuts  Bright colours against black and white background  panning  editing to reflect pace of music  high lighting  whole band shot  no real sound affects  dubbed sound  zooming out      ...

Representation in music videos

Image
Any representation is a mixture of 1.The thing itself 2.The opinion of the people constructing the representation ( does the writer/photographer/presenter like the person or not?) 3.The reaction of the individual to the representation (your personal reaction) 4.The context of the society in which the representation is taking place (the place you live in and their  social ideas.) Jay Z has been represented to us in the media as a bad man with all of his album covers close ups of his face. He is never smiling and always looks angry without emotion although it is very unlikely that he would be like this behind closed doors this idea is reinforced when he is seen with his child this shows him as a family man who smiles and is happy and not angry                 Star Image Astars image becomes a readily recognised sign that is used in many different media forms. Stars can use the fact that their image has meaning by allowing it to be ...

music video theory

Music video theory    Male gaze theory  Example – this advert is FOR women, but still has a woman posing naked and seductively. Example – this advert is FOR men; man is clothed and wearing a suit showing success. Woman is naked – there to attract men to look at the advert. Females are for “the pleasure of looking [at]”. ALL media products (film, TV, magazine, video games) are made for heterosexual (straight) males. Women’s costumes are often tighter, shorter and more revealing Uses and Gratifications Theory Personal Relationships With each other – using the media as a talking point to build friendships. E.g. “did you see Eastenders last night?” With the media – building a ‘relationship’ with a celebrity. E.g. Kim Kardashian – watching her show, following her on twitter, buying her branded products. Entertainment To fill time / escape from normal life. Personal Identity ...
