Music video purpose and style

Purpose of music videos 

Music videos are an important tool for marketing performance and their music 

They help to create the "Star image" for a new performer 

They adapt or develop the image of a more established artist (Eg. Rihanna) 
Music videos are used to interpret and anchor the meaning of a song and to entertain the audience 

Iconography 


  Different styles 

Peformance One direction - what makes you beautiful close ups of the performer, direct address to engage the audiences, different outfits  

Narrative- Katy perry- thinking of you. a story is created, sometimes the lyrics don't match the visuals at all sometimes the artist doesn't feature at all and there are just actors katy perry thinking of you is a narrative video because she is showing a story of a man and a woman who fall in love and who goes off to fight in the war and dies in the war  

Conceptual- They are based around an idea or image E.G Lady Gaga Bloody Marry this is conceptual because 







The reason One directions- What makes you beautiful is a Performance video is because it is very focused on the performers and it doesn't have a story line

    This is a good introduction, however you must watch some music videos of each style and explain how they are either a performance, narrative or conceptual video - embed them into your post!

    You also must complete your conceptual explanation.
